Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010) Blu-ray Reviews

>>> Plot Summary for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1
Voldemort’s power is growing stronger. He now has control over the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione decide to finish Dumbledore’s work and find the rest of the Horcruxes to defeat the Dark Lord. But little hope remains for the Trio, and the rest of the Wizarding World, so everything they do must go as planned.

Insects stir in the dark, metal scrapes against metal, rending iron and crackling rust erupt in an unholy chorus, and a familiar music box tune struggles to bleed through the chaos. Suddenly, as quickly as it came, the dissonant roar gives way to unnerving silence. Bill Nighy’s face fills the frame; weary but stern, frightened but resolute. “These are dark times, there is no denying.” His voice wavers, his eyes reveal the uncertainty looming just behind the facade of a veteran politician. “Our world has perhaps faced no greater threat than it does today.” Fear threatens to run rampant for the briefest of instants before the Minister of Magic composes himself. “But your ministry… remains strong.” An explosion of flash bulbs interrupt his speech as reporters press in. Without warning, we’re whisked away. Hermione Granger lingers in her bedroom, Harry Potter watches from a dingy window as the Dursley family flees their home, and Ron Weasley stares at the setting sun, unsure of what the future will bring. With tear-kissed eyes, Hermione moves behind her parents and wishes them an unspoken goodbye. She raises her wand, whispers “obliviate,” and erases all traces of her existence from her parents’ minds and the photographs adorning the walls. She departs, as does Harry, and sets off to join Ron on a perilous journey the once-rosy cheeked babes never dreamed they would one day be forced to take. This is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1, director David Yates’ unsettlingly bleak, unmistakably cinematic, exceptionally moving seventh chapter in the soon-to-be-complete saga. Needless to say, it isn’t the Harry Potter most expect, nor the Harry Potter readers and filmfans of all ages first fell in love with more than ten years ago. It’s much, much more.

>>> Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 Blu-ray Review

Deathly Hollows Part One sweeps onto blu-ray with a haunting 1080p/AVC-encoded video transfer. Dark and grim, the transfer is near flawless. No matter how dark and morbid the scene maybe, colors and flesh tones stand out with detail. Greens particularly come to mind, may that green be grass or a snake. I personally enjoy how each film matured and got darker as the series moved along. I am curious how bright the epilogue in the final movie will be. The cinematography as the rest of the series is breathtaking. Overall videophiles will salivate over the five wand quality that illuminates on blu-ray.
Deathly Hollows Part One soundtrack is equally impressive as the film’s video quality. Armed with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track, Deathly Hollows roars to life. The soundtrack is a perfect complement to the video that is uses the lossless full power. The scene of Harry’s escape is proof the power the soundtrack has. Loud, booming, crisp and clear, audiophiles will be in their glory. The dialogue is just as crisp and clear. No matter how loud the movie becomes, the dialogue is sharp and crisp. Like the video, the audio scores a perfect five wands.

The supplements like most other movies are usually the weakest part of the disc, which is not a bad thing in my opinion. The movie’s look and sound are always the most important part to me. On this disc the viewer receives Maximum Movie Mode, BD Live Capability, Focus Point Featurette, Deleted scenes, Exclusive Deathly Hollows Part 2 Sneak Peak, Behind the Soundtrack Featurette, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Theme Park Opening, and Behind the Story Featurette. The disc is decently packed and the supplements are entertaining. Still, my only gripe with the supplements is the lack of audio commentary from the three main stars of the film. Over all the supplements score a respectable four wands.

Deathly Hollows Part One is a beautiful, sad, and trying movie. The direction and maturity of the Harry Potter series is amazing. As you watch the series you feel as you grow with the characters and not many film series can say that if any. The acting is superb and the story is heartbreaking as much as fascinating. Fans of the book series will be thrilled with this entry in this series. The movie is extremely faithful to the source material. Overall both the movie and the disc score near perfect four and half wands. The only disappoint in this movie is something this movie cannot help, a conclusion since the book has been split into two parts. That is a minor flaw but that flaw will not stop me from not recommending this movie. This is a great and highly recommended film.

>>> Personal Reviews for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1
Our world has perhaps faced no greater threat than it does today…

All the Harry Potter films have been great, but Year 5 and up is where these films became amazing. The stories in each one are darker than the first four, and the Deathly Hallows is no exception.
The film is mostly dark, and that is perfectly represented with the PQ. Detail remains noticable still though. The audio is fantastic! Each sound effect packs a certain punch, especially in the Warner Bros. logo and the chase scene in the woods.
There is a nice collection of extras, although the extras on Disc 2 total to a little under a hour. However, the Maximum Movie Mode is very informative. As to whether i’ll buy the inevitable UE in the future, I think i’ll pass.
This is my favorite HP film, but it’s not over yet. To think, with this and Part 2, the film is at least over 4 hours long! Anyway, this BD is recommended
