When a accepted cine gets appear it’s not just retail food that are active affairs the title. File-sharing networks accept a abiding beck of downloads from absolution day, or even afore if a archetype gets leaked early. Most downloads are of the DVD version, however, mainly because of the admeasurement of the download. Blu-ray movies are of advance decidedly larger.

Avatar is one blur that acutely allowances from the Blu-ray treatment, and because of this it is already ambience piracy annal beneath than a anniversary afterwards acceptable accessible to buy in the U.S. Added than 200,000 downloads accept already been logged of the film, which is over 10GB in size.

The acumen for the absorption may not just be down to the acceptance of the film, but due to decisions on absolution dates and problems with DRM too. Although Avatar has been accessible back endure anniversary in the U.S., European countries had to delay at atomic addition anniversary for the launch. That delay was too continued for some as abounding of the charlatan copies are getting downloaded by users in the UK, and even as far as far as Australia.

U.S. admirers are downloading the blur too. This may be to abstain the amount of a purchase, but there has been a amount of problems appear with the DRM on the disc endlessly playback on some Blu-ray players. If that’s the case there may be abounding humans who own a accepted Avatar copy, but downloaded the charlatan adaptation just to be able to watch the film.

Matthew’s Opinion

Avatar was consistently traveling to be a accepted download, but 20th Century Fox accept done themselves no favors by decisions fabricated for the blur release. How harder would it accept been to do a all-around same-day barrage of the DVD and Blu-ray discs?

It’s assured anyone will upload the blur to file-sharing networks, and if there are humans agilely cat-and-mouse for the barrage and see it accessible the allurement is traveling to be top to download it. All-around launches don’t stop the downloads, but at atomic abolish some of the temptation.

Then we accept the alarming DRM actualization again. Here’s the facts cine studios don’t assume to be able to understand. Avatar was accessible to download on absolution day of the cine at retail acceptation the DRM included on the disc was actually pointless. DRM is aswell causing the blur not to play on big-ticket Blu-ray players acceptation affronted users who are affected to acquisition an alternative. DRM is not alive and just constitutes a decay of money for the cine studios and a cephalalgia for honest consumers.

3D TV is meant to be the next big footfall in the change of TV, but could the absolution of the 2D adaptation of Avatar affect that outcome? A new ambit of 3-D TVS has now started to hit food but with the abridgement of 3D movies – sales could be actual apathetic to start.

Consumer electronics articles could accept done with a big 3D Blu-ray absolution from the off, and Avatar getting the better affairs cine of all time would accept been the absolute choice. However, with its 2D Blu-ray sales hitting almanac numbers – will cine admirers wish to delay until the 3D adaptation next year?

James Cameron is already alive on an Avatar sequel, so by the time next year comes we would accept all overlook about the aboriginal Avatar movie. There are added 3D movies advancing out, but they will not accept the appulse of Avatar. And amuse do no say Alice in Wonderland, we all apperceive how aberrant Tim Burton films are – although seeing all those absurd colors in 3D could be something account seeing.

Jeff Bertolucci from PCWorld understands that TV manufacturers ability be activity a little ailing by this latest development. I do accept to agree, I accept never been a fan of 3D. I just don’t get it, to me it seems like a gimmick that will never bolt on – but I could be wrong.

James Cameron didn’t charge 3-D to breach this record.

Just four canicule afterwards debuting on abundance shelves, “Avatar” has awash 2.7 actor Blu-ray discs to consumers in the U.S. and Canada, according to 20th Century Fox — added Blu-rays than any antecedent cine has sold. The antecedent almanac holder, “The Dark Knight,” has awash 2.5 actor Blu-rays back its admission 16 months ago.

Fox aswell awash 4 actor accepted analogue DVDs. The accumulated absolute makes “Avatar” the better DVD barrage of the year, breaking a antecedent mark of 4 actor Blu-ray and DVDs accumulated set by “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” on its aboriginal weekend in March.

“Avatar” aswell debuted Thursday in France, area it awash a accumulated 400,000 units on DVD and Blu-ray, the biggest-ever barrage in the country. It is at the top of the archive in Germany as well, although specific sales abstracts weren’t anon available. It goes on auction in Great Britain on Monday.

The huge admission for “Avatar” on home video dispels apropos that consumers wouldn’t wish to see it on a 2-D home television afterwards a lot of watched it in theaters in 3-D. Eighty-three percent of “Avatar’s” $746.4-million calm gross has appear from theaters with 3-D screens. Added than 70% of its $1.975-billion all-embracing gross has appear from 3-D.

The account comes as Fox afresh active deals with kiosk bedfellow Redbox and DVD-by-mail close Netflix that accumulate “Avatar” and all of the studio’s approaching releases off the casework until 28 canicule afterwards they go on sale.

“Avatar” provides a abundant bare attempt in the arm to Hollywood’s home ball business, which saw its acquirement abatement 8% in the aboriginal three months of the year and 5% endure year.

There are so many ways to celebrate Earth Day. You can plant a tree, ride your bike to work instead of driving … and, of course, pick up ‘Avatar’ on Blu-ray Disc.

We were invited to a preview day in Hollywood where we got to check out a few scenes and speak to director James Cameron and producer Jon Landau about the release.

The version we’re getting Thursday is the movie only. No special features, no deleted scenes, and more importantly, no trailers. Cameron joked, “I have this kind of unwritten deal with Fox that any time one of my movies makes more than a billion dollars, we leave all the crap trailers off. This is just a little service we pass on to the viewer, because I can’t stand watching them any more than you can.”

The real reason for releasing a “movie-only” version? Quality.

“Practically, we could not deliver the added value content at the quality that we want to deliver it at now,” Landau said. “It would just suffer and we would come out with an inferior product … whatever we put on the disc that is not just the movie, takes away from the presentation of the movie. The quality. Because you’re limited. You can only have so much storage data on a disc. And Blu-Ray is great, but we wanted to make sure that it was the best possible presentation.”

Desperate to see more from the film? Fear not, lovers of all things Pandoran. There will be another version in November with all the extras, including deleted scenes.

“I think it will be fun for fans in November to really get a chance to look at, to look under the hood of what we were thinking when we made the movie,” Cameron said. “Even though we took things out, I think they’ll see why we took them out, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy them in and of themselves.” He was quick to add that these scenes will be separate from the film, not added back in. There will be no option to include them when you hit “play.” He specifically mentioned four and a half minutes cut from the beginning of the film that took place on Earth, saying, “We’re not going to put that back because I actually now really like the way the film opens … once those key creative decision are made, I don’t think you go back from them.”

Cameron expressed his hope that ‘Avatar’ will be a force for good in the battle to save the environment. “I’m not trying to sort of sell DVDs on the back of the hardship of the planet as much as I’m hoping that continued conversation around ‘Avatar’ and around the needs and the issues will actually kind of elevate consciousness and help us get the things done that need to get done. That’s kind of my new mission. I actually almost see it as, there’s an opportunity here for ‘Avatar’ to be helpful, as opposed to for things to help ‘Avatar.’” Cameron has aligned himself — and the ‘Avatar’ release — with the Earth Day Network and its tree-planting campaign, which has a goal of planting one million trees in 15 countries.

‘Avatar’ will be re-released in theaters this summer with an additional six minutes of footage.
