Final Cut Pro, FCP for short, is one of the most popular video editing softwares for Mac users, mainly video hobbyists and independent filmmakers. At the beginning of 2011, Apple released a new version of Final Cut Pro, renamed to “Final Cut Pro X”. The new features of FCP X is much similar to iMovie (leading some users to call it “iMovie Pro”) and it supports importing videos, audios and images as clips in events. You may even full copy iMovie event folder for using in FCP X.

Final Cut Pro X supports importing directly from a large amount of popular camcorders or digital still cameras. But as for Canon XF footages, this becomes a bit tacky that you can not natively import and edit .mxf wrapped footage from the XF100, XF105, XF300 and XF305 cameras in FCP X flawlessly. A newbie may feel disappinted when the FCP X failed to import recordings from Canon XF105 or XF300 while experienced users will convert the Canon MXF to something Final Cut Pro X can edit natively, say Apple ProRes 422 encoded MOV format. Along with some help from the third-party software. Video Converter Varies, a recommended one is Pavtube MXF to ProRes Converter for Mac.

[Sharing]Import Canon XF105 MXF video into Final Cut Pro X for editing

You must be disappointed when the FCP X failed to import recordings from Canon XF105. Well, don’t blame to the Final Cut Pro X, the “Import from Camera…” option works just like “Log and Transfer”. The thing is, even FCP 7 does not work with the Canon XF codec. If you want to edit with MXF natively, get Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5…Or transcode the Canon MXF to something Final Cut Pro X can edit natively, say Apple ProRes 422 encoded MOV format. Here’s a detailed workaround for getting Canon MXF shootings into FCP X.

Preparation
1. Transfer the .mxf clips to Mac HDD.
2. Get a top Mac MXF to FCP X Converter

I have a lovely new Canon XF100 and it generate MXF Files. However when i tried to import these HD MXF videos to FCP X for editing, the iSight runs when i click the camcorder button on FCP X. After searching and consulting,I noticed that there is Canon XF plugin for FCP7, but Canon XFP plugin doesn’t work for FCP X.

MXF file format comes from like Canon XF300/XF100, Panasonic HVX200/HPX300, Sony EX camera, etc. It is not compatible with many programs just like Apple Final Cut Pro. So convert mxf file to FCP mov video is a necessary step to do if you want watch your video from your camcorder which export mxf file.

And we know that Apple ProRes 422 , Apple ProRes 4444,introduced in Final Cut Studio, was advertised to one of the codecs to result in less compression and higher data rate/higher quality files for HD editing in Final Cut Pro X.

Below I would like to share my experience of converting Canon XF300/XF100, Panasonic HVX200/HPX300, Sony EX MXF files to ProRes 422 for Final Cut X editing and QuickTime playback.
